SET FREE ROCHESTER

Edgewood is committed to being part of the fight against human trafficking. To that end, we have a team that is part of the larger Set Free Movement of the Free Methodist Church. This team works in cooperation with our Missions Committee in local, national, and international areas of need.

In the Rochester area, we are committed to addressing risk factors that can cause people to become vulnerable to being trafficked,

specifically food insecurity and homelessness. We do this through "The Pantry," our food cupboard ministry and through partnerships

with agencies already working in areas of risk.

Ministry
The Pantry

The Pantry is our in-house ministry of providing food where it’s needed most. The poverty rate for children in the city of Rochester is the highest in the nation. Poverty and food insecurity are strong risk factors for trafficking. All food donated to our pantry will be given to organizations that provide food to low-income families.

Partnership

Brightstar Community

Brightstar Community has opened their first recovery home for women who have been trafficked. The home is a place where women live rent-free for up to two years while they heal from the trauma of their experience. Set Free Roc will be providing items needed for the home and the women there, including prayer shawls, kitchen needs, and house repairs.

Partnership
Restoration Rochester

Restoration Rochester works to connect people in difficult situations with the services they need in times of financial crisis, particularly when faced with eviction. Through Set Free's "The Pantry," we partner with Restoration Rochester to provide food to low-income families in the city of Rochester.

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me   to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,  to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

– Luke 4:18-19 NIV

Partnership

St. John’s Home/Bulgaria

Members of our team have visited Bulgaria to teach sewing to Roma women in need of gainful employment. Risk factors for trafficking are very high in Roma communities. The ability to sell their handmade items helps women avoid desperate choices in order to provide for their families. The St. John’s Home in Bulgaria is a preventative ministry. There, teenage Roma girls will live safely and learn skills for future employment.
